Chilean food and clay events coming up at Vinylio Wine Etc

Bars may have been shut for almost half a year and now that they are back – even just outdoors – no time is wasted. A series of events are on the horizon for quaint Limassol bar Vinylio Wine Etc.

On Sunday something different will arrive at the bar. Starting at 6.30pm, an ethnic Chilean event will take place with free gourmet food from Chile, a selection of Chilean wines and famous cocktails such as Pisco Sour – a citrusy drink with local brandy.

Evidently, Sunday’s event is a dive into Chilean culture and cuisine. “Due to its large coastline, Chile has many seafood dishes, mainly in the central and southern country,” say the event organisers. “Potato and quinoa are another main ingredients, which were cultivated before the Inca era and are essential nutrients for the high altitude of the Andes.

“Chileans eat four meals a day and start their day with a small breakfast that includes toast with sweet tea or coffee with milk. Lunch is the main meal of the day and the biggest one. A traditional meal may include cazuela, a soup made with rice, potatoes, corn and meat. Another well-known cooked food is pastel de choclo, made with corn, meat, olives and vegetables, and consumed mainly in summer. Accompanying the meal is the bread baked in a wood oven, the amasado.”

Dinnertime includes mostly meaty dishes, the event organisers explain as well as a world-popular seafood dish – ceviche. During the event, a local fast food bite will also be available; a hot dog with mayonnaise, ketchup, guacamole and tomato.

Next week, more exciting things are happening at the bar. The Wine & Clay workshops resume and will take place on Wednesday, April 7 at 7.30pm. To sign up for the class, contact the bar at 99-300430.

Later on that week, on Friday, April 9, an evening celebrating Jazz Divas will reach the bar. Alexis Kasinos on guitar and Kate Petrou on vocals will perform a jazzy, outdoor set at 7.30pm onwards. Wine, gourmet food bites, early bookings and the usual measures will be in place before a new series of events arrive at Vinylio Wine Etc.
