Notes from the open road: playing piano in 450 world cities

Dotan Negrin started travelling the world with his piano in 2011 when he was 24, beginning by a long road-trip across America and visiting 36 states.

Once he got over his initial fear of moving around solo, and settled into the rhythm of travelling and playing, he eventually headed overseas.

As a result, Dotan visited over 450 cities in 22 countries over seven years, only stopping when he’d had his fill of living in a van and pushing his piano around from one city to the next. Truth to tell… doing so was hurting his hands too much and making it hard for him to play.

At that point it was time to head home.

Dotan has finally settled down in New York City and continues to work on his music. But he knows that the call of the open road might return at any time, beckoning him towards the horizon once more.
