Coronavirus: One death, 3,538 new cases on Sunday (updated)

One person died as a result of Covid-19 on Sunday as the ministry of health announced 3,538 new positive cases.

The death brings the number who have died since the start of the pandemic to 639.

It refers to an 85-year-old woman who died on Sunday in the Larnaca general hospital.

Of all deaths, 405 were men and 234 women.

Meanwhile 203 people are being treated in hospital, 84 of them in a serious condition.

Of those in a serious condition 33 are intubated and five are in ICU but not on a ventilator. Forty six patients are being treated in a high dependency unit.

Among all people in hospital, 83.26 per cent have no history of vaccination.

There are 16 post Covid patients intubated in ICU departments.

The 3,538 cases come from 91,482 tests, giving a positivity rate of 3.87 per cent.

A total of 7,912 tests were PCR and 83,570 rapid tests.

Contact tracing saw 456 tests identify 68 positive cases, while a further 58 were found among 3,915 tests carried out at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

A further 362 were found from 3,198 people who took a test at their own initiative, while 22 cases were found among 291 tests taken at state hospitals.

Three cases were found among 52 tests ordered by GPs.

Among rapid tests, 1,816 cases were found among the 45,456 tests taken at private labs and pharmacies.

The results include 46 cases found among 2,417 tests carried out at closed facilities.

Since the start of the pandemic total cases has reached 172,697.
