The production of electric cars on a large scale in the north will begin in 2023, rector of Near East University and chairman of electric car company Gunsel, Suat İrfan Günsel said on Tuesday.

In an interview published by Turkish Cypriot media outlet Kibris, Gunsel said that the company’s goal is to sell around 240,000 vehicles by 2030, specifically the B9 electric car model.

“Gunsel has suppliers from 30 different countries and cooperates with as many as 1,200 companies around the world,” the chairman said.

“The production of the electric cars will massively help our economy and the automotive, engineering and technology industries.

“Moreover, entering the electric car market will help the ‘TRNC’ integrate with the rest of Europe and the world,” he added.
