The justice ministry and police will work closer together to combat violence in stadiums, as the two announced they are spearheading collective efforts to tackle the issue.

On Tuesday, Justice Minister Stephanie Drakou and police chief Stylianos Papatheodorou met to discuss the reports over the matter and what action police would be taking.

The measures will be based on four pillars, namely increasing stadium inspectors, legal measures, increased police steps and other measures in cooperation with the Cyprus football association (CFA).

A broader meeting will be held next week including representatives from the five major stadiums in Cyprus, the CFA, Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) and the police chief.

Violent clashes between Ael and Apollon fans earlier this month led to the match getting cancelled, an injured police officer shops in the area neighbouring Tsirion stadium damaged.
