Paphos district court on Wednesday remanded a 58-year-old man suspected of shooting a dog.

According to police statement, a 40-year-old man in Tremithousa reported hearing a shot shortly after 3pm and came out upon hearing his dog’s yelps, to find the animal wounded in the yard.

The 40-year-old alleged to have spotted his neighbour in the driver’s seat of his car, holding a hunting gun, before driving off.

The man took his dog to a private vet, where it was found to have an injured right front leg and was kept for treatment.

The owner alleged he had no previous altercations with his 58-year-old neighbour and his dog was always kept in the yard, CyBC reported.

Police meanwhile arrested the 58-year-old man for alleged illegal possession and transport of a weapon, firing shots in a residential area and animal harm, while investigation into the case continues.

Court remanded the man for one day.
