EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson will visit Cyprus on Tuesday to discuss migration management as well as the implementation of the EU Action Plan for the Eastern Mediterranean route.

The commissioner will visit the Pournara Reception centre and meet with ministers involved with the issue of migration.

The visit builds on the ongoing work to implement the EU Action Plan for the Eastern Mediterranean route, including by strengthening the partnership with key countries of origin and transit along the route, in full coordination with Member States.

The EU also continues to provide financial and operational support to Cyprus and Greece on migration and border management, including with the support of EU Agencies (Frontex, EUAA, Europol).

On Monday, Johansson was in Greece, and was expected to travel to Cyprus later the same night.

On Tuesday, the Commissioner will meet with Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou and Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, as well as with the deputy minister for Social Welfare Marilena Evangelou.

She will also meet with stakeholders active in the field of migration and asylum and visit the Zenon Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the Pournara reception centre.
