Be My Home: an exploratory dance performance

be my home by konstantina skalionta

Defining ‘home’ can be a more complex task than it initially seems. A house transforms into a home when it’s filled with cherished memories, a loved one’s embrace can bring the warmth of a home or even the smell of flowers can paint an image of a childhood neighbourhood. Home, roots and identity are deeply intertwined and these are the themes an ongoing exhibition at NiMAC explores.

Within the framework of the Seeking Roots exhibition comes a performance by choreographer and dancer, Konstantina Skalionta on Friday. Titled Be My Home, the performance is an exploration into the relationship people have with their home and the battle between accepting or rejecting what comes with it.

“A home attached to a body,” writes Konstantina, “a body inside a home, he echoes of a past home, the dream of a future home, a journey in search of a lost home. My body, a home for what I am, what I have been and what I will be… My body, my lifelong home…”

The 16-minute performance will take place at NiMAC on Friday at 6pm and is free for the public to attend given that those interested make a reservation at 97-701010 or at [email protected]
