Latest poll has Disy holding lead

RULING Disy is tipped to win the May 30 parliamentary election with Akel in second place and Diko in third, according to the latest survey, which was published on Wednesday evening.

The survey, conducted on behalf of Antenna television, showed Disy in the lead with 19.2 per cent and Akel in second place with 16.4 per cent.

Diko came in third with 10.2 per cent, followed by the Greens with 5.1 per cent. Far right Elam received 4.4 per cent and Edek 4.3 per cent.

The undecided were at 19.1 per cent, while 7.7 per cent said they will not be voting.

The survey was carried out by Cymar Market Research between May 4 and May 12, canvassing 1,130 people across the island.

Seventy-two per cent of the sample said they were satisfied with their choice, with Edek voters topping the category, followed by Akel, Elam, Disy, Diko, and the Green party.

Asked who could handle various issues better, 29 per cent of respondents said no one, when it came to the Cyprus problem, while 28 per cent said Disy could better manage the economy.

Twenty-eight per cent said Disy could also handle the health scheme better than the rest, but 31 per cent said no one could handle the pandemic.

Almost half the respondents, 45 per cent, said no one could manage corruption, with Akel a distant second with 12 per cent.

Staying on corruption, 26 per cent said parties and politicians were to blame, while 21 per cent said it was the Cypriots’ mentality. Fifteen per cent said it was the lack of law enforcement and 11 per cent blamed the lack of legislation.

Twenty-seven per cent said all the above were to blame.

Three in 10 of the participants, or 31 per cent, gave the wrong answer when asked the duration of a parliamentary term, while over half, 53 per cent, did not know how many seats there were.
