Donated items for Greek fire victims to be shipped out Friday 

The Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) announced it would be sending the essential items collected for people affected by fires in Greece this Friday.

The items will be sent from Limassol port, where a press conference will also take place at noon to announce the results of the collection campaign, the ports authority said on Thursday.

The campaign started on August 9 and was expected to end on August 12, however increased demand led to the extension of the deadline for another day.

The CPA collected dry food, long-life milk, baby formula, diapers, adult diapers, bottled water, and dog and cat food.

A previous shipment with essential items already left Cyprus.

The CPA also donated €1,000 with which baby food and diapers were purchased.

Large quantities of dog and cat food were also donated with officials saying most children who went to the CPA offices to deliver their donations, brought in pet food.

The items were categorised and put in boxes with wishes for “strength and patience” by the CPA to the people afflicted by the fire.

“Our support is limitless, and a given. Hang in there!” the message on each box said.
