A man was fined €12,000 on Tuesday after he was found by the game fund with dead songbirds and traps in Paphos.

The hefty fine was imposed following a tip-off to the authorities who carried out an investigation. In the man’s field the authorities found wire traps intended for rabbits and at least two types of dead birds.

Daily Phileleftheros reported that while it is currently the hunting season for one of the species of bird, and it is therefore legal for it to be hunted, the man in question did not have a hunting license.
