Coronavirus: More than 6,600 get third jab

Over 6,600 people have received a Covid-19 booster jab in Cyprus, the health ministry announced on Sunday.

Across the country, 6,615 people received a booster shot or third jab. Mobile units offered vaccines at nursing homes where a total of 2,506 people received the jab, both elderly individuals and staff members.

According to the health ministry, 1,225 people who are vulnerable groups received the booster shot after being informed over the phone for their eligibility. Since the rollout of the third jab began on September 22 for people aged 86 and above, 1,357 citizens got another dose of the vaccine.

A total of 1,102 employees at the state health services organisation Okypy have been vaccinated with the booster jab, 21 health professionals in private hospitals and 404 private health practitioners, the health ministry added.

As of Monday, the third dose will become available for people aged 83 and above. This will be offered from Monday through to Thursday between 8am to 1pm. Citizens will have to present ID such as passport, alien card or identity, as well as their vaccination card.
