Coronavirus: 22 fines for violating measures after 2,543 checks

Three businesses and 19 individuals were booked after 2,543 checks for the implementation of coronavirus measures in the last 24 hours.

Most checks, 1,107, were carried out in Nicosia where three people were fined as well as two businesses. The businesses concerned a restaurant where the manager was found working without a face mask and a pub where officers found a customer without a SafePass and were each booked €500.

A bakery was also booked in Paphos for the same amount for failing to scan the SafePass of its customers, police said. The fine came after 167 checks in the district during which one person was also booked.

Eight people were fined in Limassol after 192 checks and seven in Famagusta after 331 checks.

No violations were reported in Larnaca or Morphou after 435 and 154 checks respectively.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 122 and 35 checks without any bookings.

The recent checks were conducted between 6am on Thursday and 6am on Friday.

Violations include failure to wear a face mask or carry a SafePass.
