Coronavirus: Limassol businesses fined €21,500 after 222 checks

Police on Tuesday said they fined a total of €21,500 to a Limassol retail store and two cafeterias for failing to check customers for a SafePass.

The retail store was booked for €16,000 while one cafeteria was issued a €4,000 and another €1,500 after 222 checks in the district.

The checks were part of 2,593 nationwide inspections carried out between 6am on Monday and 6am on Tuesday.

During the checks 11 individuals were also booked, mainly for failing to wear a face mask.

Six people were booked in Famagusta after 366 checks, three in Larnaca after 491 checks and one in Paphos following 132 checks. Another person was booked in Nicosia following 1,097 inspections, police said.

No violations were reported by officers in Morphou, traffic or marine police.
