Youth caught speeding, driving under the influence

A 20-year-old man who was caught speeding while drunk on the motorway will appear before Nicosia district court on Wednesday.

He was arrested late on Tuesday driving at 187kph on the Limassol-Nicosia motorway where the maximum speed limit is set at 100kph.

The driver was transferred to the police station where he underwent an alcohol test with an indication of 59μg instead of the maximum permitted limit of 9μg for new drivers.

Police charged the suspect in writing and released him pending his court appearance.
