Coronavirus: One death 2,568 test positive on Saturday (Updated)

The health ministry announced that one person had died of Covid-19 and that 2,568 had tested positive from 87,025  PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 2.9 per cent.

The death concerned a woman aged 94 taking the total over the past two years to 741.

There are 225 people in hospitals of whom 65 are in serious condition. Of these, 29 are intubated.

The ministry said that the percentage of unvaccinated patients was 73 per cent.

Of the 87,025 tests on Saturday,  5,859 were PCR and 81,166 rapid tests giving 2,568 positives as follows: 

  • 57 cases from 3,179 samples taken at airports 
  • 323 cases from 2,415 samples taken through private initiative
  • 26 cases from 265 samples taken at hospital labs.
  • 1,301 cases from 45,191 tests in private labs and pharmacies 
  • 861 cases from 35,975 tests under the free programme by the health ministry
