Driver stopped by police tests positive for drugs

A 24-year-old man from Larnaca was issued with a written warning for driving under the influence of drugs by traffic police in the Famagusta district in the early hours of Sunday.

According to Famagusta police department spokesman Steve Theodoulou,  police pulled the vehicle over for a spot-check, when they caught a whiff of cannabis coming from inside the car, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported.

Theodoulou added that “the young man handed over to the police a bag of cannabis weighing 1.2 grams. The 24-year-old was arrested for the self-inflicted offence of possessing a controlled category B drug, while a search of his vehicle turned up a mill with cannabis traces and a precision scale with traces of cannabis, which were confiscated. ”

The 24-year-old tested positive following a preliminary drug test and was handed over to the members of the Famagusta drugs squad. During the interrogation, the young man admitted to committing the crimes and after being charged in writing, he was released awaiting a Court summons at a later stage, Theodoulou said.
