Deputy minister for shipping, Vassilis Demetriades attended the christening ceremony of Safe Bulkers’ new cargo ship M/V Climate Respect on Saturday during his visit to Japan together with officials from his ministry.

Demetriades said in a post on Twitter that the ship was built “in Japanese #OshibaShipyard in compliance with the highest environmental standards”, adding that he was “proud for this new entry to the Cyprus flag registry”.

The minister is in Japan since Monday where he is holding a series of meetings with government officials, representatives of shipowners’ associations and shipyards, as well as executives of shipping companies and financial institutions, within the framework of promoting Cyprus as a maritime hub and creating conditions for attracting shipping companies and ships to Cyprus from the Far East market, as well as presenting Cyprus’ strategic vision for shipping “SEA Change 2030”.
