Two men, aged 30 and 27, have been remanded for five days over the illegal possession of ammunition, Paphos police said on Monday.

The case started when a man reported he had received a message on WhatsApp and was told that the sender had bullets for sale.

The 30-year-old was arrested on Friday evening when police searched his house where they found a military case containing 200, 7.62-millimetre bullets.

The man alleged that he had found the bullets after they had been discarded by someone else.

Aside from the illegal possession of ammunition, police also discovered that he man was illegally residing in Cyprus and was a third-country national.

Under questioning the 30-year-old implicated another man from the same country, aged 27.

Paphos police are investigating the case.
