A 23-year-old man was taken into custody to facilitate investigations into a case of armed robbery and assault, which is being investigated by the Paphos police department, the force said on Saturday.

The man is suspected of committing a number of offences, including conspiracy to commit a felony, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, wounding someone, armed robbery, illegal possession and transportation of a firearm, as well as assault and stabbing.

His is the fourth arrest following an armed robbery involving several people.

Police initially arrested a 26-year-old man, followed by the arrests of two 25-year-olds and a 30-year-old on December 11.

However, the 26-year-old has since been released, since nothing incriminating was found against him.

The armed robbery was committed at approximately 9.45pm on the evening of December 5 in a building complex in Paphos.

According to police, a group of eight individuals armed with pistols, swords and sticks, entered a home in the complex in question and attacked a 20-year-old and a 24-year-old, inflicting stab wounds.

During the episode, the eight people allegedly stole two mobile phones worth €600, as well as €500 in cash and then left.

The two injured men were taken to Paphos General Hospital, where they received first aid before being discharged.
