Princess Anne at the Presidential Palace (Update)

Princess Anne met President Nicos Anastasiades at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday as part of her two-day visit to Cyprus.

The princess was also welcomed by Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides, who, along with Anastasiades, updated her on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus problem, Turkish provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean and the rising cost of living following the war in Ukraine.

Anastasiades gifted Princess Anne a silver replica of a 4th century BC goblet, as well as a photographic album of Cypriot veterans of the Second World War, while she presented the President with a signed portrait of her.

In a tweet, Anastasiades reiterated his and the princess’ “common aspiration to further develop and expand the historical ties and enduring bonds between Cyprus and the UK, both at the bilateral level as well as within our Commonwealth family.”

Later on Wednesday, Her Royal Highness will also attend a reception hosted by the British High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus Irfan Siddiq at his residence.

The visit recognises the UN British peacekeepers’ service and contribution to the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (Unficyp).

The princess will conclude her trip with a visit to the British Base in Dhekelia, where she will meet members of the British Armed Forces and their families and will open a new school for the children of serving personnel.
