Looking Back and Moving Forward: live poetry

1 (7)

Calling all writers and poets! A free poetry writing workshop and live performance is coming to Kafeneio Prozak presented by Atlantis Culture. Dust off any old notebooks, brush up your poems and head to the Nicosia coffee shop to get together with other logophiles for an evening dedicated to the written word. Four invited Slovenian LGBTI+ poets will lead the event taking place as part of Pride week.

The Looking Back and Moving Forward event will take place on May 25, organised by the local organisation Atlantis Culture in collaboration with KENO Publications (CY), ŠKUC Association (Slovenia) and Slovenian Book Agency (Slovenia). Poets Nina Dragicevic, Gasper Malej, Milan Selj and Natasa Velikonja will lead the happening.

The writing aspect of the event will take place between 5.30pm and 8pm. This section will be a guided writing session with the four poets where participants will explore their poetry writing in new ways, receive feedback and suggestions from the group. “Expect scribbling or typing, some much needed tea, coffee (or something stronger?) from Orestis at the bar and a new world of creativity opening in just a few hours. Join when you can, and we won’t hold you hostage for the whole time,” writes the event description.

Then, from 8.30pm to 10.30pm the performance part of the evening will begin. The four Slovenian poets will perform pieces from their collections. Later on, local poets are invited to share their performance poetry. To book a slot, they can contact Atlantis Culture directly through social media or by sending an email to [email protected]. “Come to both, come to one, come for a few minutes for just a couple of breaths of creativity to fuel your weekend,” concludes the event description, gearing audiences and participants up for an evening of self-expression and poetry.
