Recycling vending machine installed at Larnaca beach

A recycling vending machine for separate collection of waste plastic, glass and metal packaging was installed recently along Mackenzie beach in Larnaca.

According to a press release, the machine is part of a programme to reduce solid municipal waste.

The machine offers an economic incentive to citizens and visitors to actively participate in recycling. People may place the recyclable materials into the machine and in return they will receive a voucher of one cent for each recycled item.

The vouchers, when they reach at least 50 cents, can be exchanged with parking tickets in municipal parking places, cultural events of the municipality and renting of sunbeds and umbrellas at the beach.

Or vouchers can be donated to a good cause.

At the end of every year Larnaca Municipality will announce the total amount and the organisations that will benefit from donations.
