The narrations of women

Starting on Monday, the Ayioi Omoloyites Cultural Workshop will present the theatrical performance Narratives of Women.

Narratives of Women is based on 18 Narratives, one of the last works of the poet, painter and writer Niki Marangou.

The story revolves around 18 Greek and Turkish Cypriot women. Marangou collected these narratives over the years and used them to bring Cyprus history alive through the retelling of these women’s stories.

Marangou, from Limassol, studied sociology in West Berlin, Germany from 1965 to 1970. After graduation she worked as a dramaturge at the Cyprus Theatre Organisation and also ran a bookshop in Nicosia.

She was the author of books of prose, poetry and children’s fairy tales, and also a painter, having staged seven solo exhibitions.

As a writer she won the Cavafy prize for poetry in Alexandria in 1998, the poetry prize from the Athens Academy for her book Divan in 2006, and she was also given the Konstantin-Kavafis Prize for Poetry in 2008.

The theatrical performance is directed by Emilios Charalambides.
