Follow the yellow brick road

By  Emmelia Georgiou

Maskarini Theatre group was formed by young talented actors who mainly love children’s theatre. The company’s aim is to contribute to the development of theatre on the island through productions that respect their audiences – young or old – and now they are ready to take us to the emerald city.

This weekend the theatre group invites everyone to its latest production of The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum. The classic tale that we all know and love is adapted and directed by Petros Konomou, who also acts in the play. The cast includes many popular actors from children’s programmes on television, including Markos Ioulios Droussiotis. The rest of the cast includes Maria Papacosta and Petros Tigris.

This production will be a delightful combination of dance – choreographed by Antigoni Tasouri – and music composed by Stylianos Gerasimou, along with the energised acting of the multi-talented cast.

The story of The Wizard of Oz chronicles the adventures of a young farm girl named Dorothy. Dorothy lives with her aunt and uncle when a tornado picks up her house and spins it up in the air. The house crashes in the Land of Oz, where Dorothy together with the scarecrow, tinman, and the lion get to see the wizard and have their aha moment.

So, follow the yellow brick road to Maskarini’s Theatre production of The Wizard of Oz – a play suitable for all ages.
