Larnaca general hospital

Police arrested a 55-year-old man, a resident of Dromolaxia, early on Monday after he threatened staff and patients at Larnaca general hospital.

The man, who was drunk, entered the first aid department of the hospital at 11pm on Sunday and started to shout at people. He was arrested shortly after midnight.

After his arrest doctors on duty examined him and he was given medication as he displayed symptoms of withdrawal from drugs and alcohol.

Shortly after dawn, a black bag was found outside the hospital which contained a metal pistol containing a fake bullet.

Police believe the pistol is a fake as the barrel was blocked.

The 55-year-old admitted the weapon was his. He is being detained while investigations continue.
