A 73-year-old man was arrested by British sovereign bases police in Ypsonas on Friday night, following a raid on a building housing computers used for electronic gambling, police said on Saturday.

Bases police raided the building in cooperation with Cyprus police at approximately 9pm, and found nine individuals there. Eight were taken into custody and later released after being charged, and told to appear in court at a later date.

During the raid, police also arrested the 73-year-old man, suspected of running the gambling ring.  He was taken to the bases police holding cells for further questioning.

Police also seized 42 computers, €1,636 in cash, a CCTV system, and other documents found in the building.

The owner appeared in the bases court on Saturday morning, where he paid a €3,000 bail and was released with reporting conditions, the bases said.  He will appear in court on December 3, the bases added.

Police also charged two employees of the illegal casino and released them, until their court date is determined.
