Coronavirus: no deaths, 169 people test positive on Friday (Updated)

The health ministry on Friday announced no new deaths from Covid-19 but said another 169 people had tested positive from 42,660 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.40 per cent, slightly down on Thursday’s 0.5 per cent.

There are 41 people in hospitals of whom 17 are in serious condition. Of these, nine are intubated.

Three of the new cases were detected during testing among passengers at the Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Another 18 were found positive during contact tracing, three among samples collected from the state hospitals’ labs, and five were people who got rapid tests privately.

In total 140 cases were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Four of these were detected during tests in the National Guard. In the Nicosia district, 41 people were found positive (0.29 per cent), in Limassol, 31 cases were detected (0.33 per cent), 21 in Larnaca (0.38 per cent), three in Paphos (0.09 per cent) and 40 in the Famagusta district (1.39 per cent).

The total number of cases so far is 74,343.

So far, 378 deaths from Covid-19 were detected: 254 men and 124 women with average age 77 years.
