Mads Mikkelsen had wanted to speak with Johnny Depp before replacing him

More often than not, showbiz has just as much drama when the cameras aren’t rolling, as when they are.

Here, we learn that actor Mads Mikkelsen wished he could have talked to fellow performer Johnny Depp before replacing him as Gellert Grindelwald for the third ‘Fantastic Beasts’ installment.

The ‘Doctor Strange’ and ‘Rogue One’ star shared with the ‘Sunday Times’ his complicated feelings around taking the part over from Depp, who announced his departure from the role and film last November, after appearing in 2018’s ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald’.

“I know it was controversial for many people, but that’s just the way it plays out once in a while,” said Mikkelsen, of his ultimate decision to play the character in the wake of Depp’s exit.
