Coronavirus: Nicosia supermarket fined €8,000 for lack of employee SafePass

Police on Friday said they fined four businesses a total of €13,250 for violating coronavirus protocols as part of 2,700 nationwide checks carried out in the 24 hours up to 6am.

The largest fine of €8,000 was issued to a Nicosia-based supermarket where an employee was found without a SafePass, another supermarket in the district received a €4,000 fine because they let a customer enter without a SafePass, while a €750 fine was issued to a grocery store for failure to check whether customers had a SafePass.

In Paphos an establishment was issued a €500 fine for a lack of Covid-signage and also because three employees weren’t wearing a face mask and the manager did not have a SafePass.

As part of the checks, 30 individuals were also fined.

Thirteen people were fined in Nicosia after 1,071 checks, seven in Limassol after 199 checks, two in Larnaca after 587 checks and two in Paphos after 118 checks. Six more people were fined in Famagusta after 514 checks while no violations were reported in Morphou after 84 checks.

Traffic and maritime police carried out 101 checks and 26 checks respectively, without any bookings.
