Larnaca Christmas tree officially lit

default

The municipal Christmas tree in Larnaca’s Europe Square was officially lit on Sunday, signalling the beginning of the festive season.

The tree and accompanying lights were turned on by mayor Andreas Vyras, following an action-packed programme of singing and dancing.

Speaking before switching the lights on, he described the scene as “not only beautiful, not only festive, but also containing a powerful symbolism”.

“Against the grey colours of the times, against the darkness of fears and uncertainty, we are choosing light. We are choosing to bring a celebratory atmosphere to our town and to all of its residents,” he said.
