A 19-year-old man died in Larnaca on Tuesday evening after the car he was driving crashed into an electricity pole and a wall, police said.

The incident took place at around 11.10pm on Makarios Avenue. Under circumstances that are under investigation, Sophocles Mina, with an 18-year-old male as passenger, veered off course and crashed into an electricity pole before stopping on a wall.

The passenger got out of the vehicle while Mina was trapped in the mangled wreckage and had to be freed by the fire service.

Both youths were rushed to Larnaca general hospital where Mina was pronounced dead on arrival. The passenger was discharged after receiving treatment.
