Coronavirus: Cafeteria fined €8000 for SafePass violations

Police on Wednesday said they had fined a cafeteria in Nicosia €8,000 for failing to check customers for a SafePass.

The violation was identified during 2,975 nationwide checks that also resulted in the booking of one kiosk in Nicosia and 28 individuals.

The owner of the kiosk was fined €500 for allowing an employee to work without a SafePass.

The checks were carried out between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday, with the main violation among individuals being the failure to wear a facemask.

Most people, 13, were fined in Famagusta where police conducted 538 checks.

Nicosia officers carried out the highest number of checks, 1,204, and fined two people, while eight persons were booked in Limassol after just 278 checks.

In Larnaca, two people were fined after 476 checks and three in Paphos after 96 checks.

Morphou officers, traffic, marine and port police did not report any violations.
