Man arrested for trying to smuggle cannabis in pitta of kebab

Police have arrested a 29-year-old man who tried to smuggle cannabis hidden in a pitta of kebab to a suspect being held in a Limassol police cell.

The man went to the police station on Sunday afternoon and handed over a pitta of kebab he said was for a 27-year-old suspect who is in custody in connection with a case under investigation by Limassol CID.

In the pitta, police found a small transparent bag which contained about 1.5 grams of cannabis.

The man was arrested. Under questioning he allegedly admitted to the use, illegal possession, and possession with intent to supply of a class B drug and conspiracy to commit an offence.

Police searched his home and car with his consent but found nothing incriminating.

The detainee was also questioned and admitted that he had telephoned the 29-year-old and asked him to bring the drugs.

Police are investigating.
