Police have arrested a 27-year-old Pakistani man in connection with a suspected plot to assassinate Israeli nationals living in Cyprus.

The suspect, who worked as a delivery man in Paphos, was arrested after his phone number was discovered on a phone seized from an Azeri suspect held in the same case.

The 27-year-old was transferred to Nicosia where a court remanded him in custody for eight days.

The hearing was held behind closed doors.

Of the little information that emerged, it appears that he had been in contact with a 39-year-old Azeri who has been in custody for the past couple of weeks.

He was arrested on September 27 in Nicosia and was found in possession of a pistol equipped with a suppressor, according to police.

Israeli government officials said that the planned assassination of Israeli businessmen in Cyprus was an Iranian plot aimed at striking Israel.
