Authorities investigating workplace death

Authorities are investigating the precise circumstances surrounding the death of a 61-year-old construction worker on Thursday.

Turkish Cypriot Ahmet Tuncer, 61, was working on the scaffolding on the second floor of a building under construction in Strovolos, when he fell to the ground. The incident happened around 9am.

An ambulance rushed Tuncer to Nicosia General hospital where at 10.50am doctors pronounced him dead.

A post-mortem will be carried out on the man’s body.

Police and the labour inspection department are investigating.
