duo arcadia 2 960x677

If there is one instrument that could represent Spanish music, it would have to be the guitar. It is a characteristic sound in the country’s music and on December 16, a female guitar duo is bringing its fascinating rhythm and melodies to Nicosia.

Continuing their long-established collaboration, the Instituto Cervantes and Pharos Arts Foundation are presenting an exciting concert with the female guitar Dúo Arcadia. Guitarists Avelina Vidal Seara and Pilar Rius Fortea are committed to artistic creation and the development of new works, as well as the dissemination of existing ones. Specialised in exploring the resourcefulness hidden in the guitar, the Duo has performed in numerous internationally renowned festivals and venues, and received rave reviews from the audience and music critics alike.

Arcadia, the imaginary place in which humans live in accord with Nature and which sages of ancient Greece considered the way to live, is the inspiration behind the female guitar Dúo Arcadia. Arcadia´s repertoire ranges from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day, gathering a diversity of musical styles and idioms, including neoclassical, avant-garde or experimental, and for various genres, including theatre and dance.

For its concert in Cyprus at The Shoe Factory, Dúo Arcadia will present a thrilling and diverse programme of works by Joaquín Rodrigo, María Rodrigo, Hans W. Henze, Matilde Salvador, Toru Takemitsu, Giuseppe Causa, Mª José Cordero and Ivan Lyran.
