Two arrested on suspicion of robbery

Police on Wednesday said they have arrested two people for theft, including a teenage girl who is suspected of stealing €1,200 from two different residences in Limassol.

According to police, the 17-year-old girl was seen entering the Limassol house of an 88-year-old woman around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

When the pensioner noticed the girl, she allegedly pushed her and fled on foot through the yard of the adjacent house holding the woman’s purse, which contained €1,000.

Then, the 88-year-old called for help and neighbours located the girl, whom the pensioner identified as the person who stole her purse.

The purse was then found discarded in a nearby spot, with a €50 bill in it.

Meanwhile, a second resident reported to police that someone stole a wallet, which contained €200, from his car that was parked in the same area.

Officers who investigated the case concluded the 17-year-old was involved in both cases and that she had given the money to another person.

Police arrested the teenager, as well as a 34-year-old man around 1.30am on Wednesday, after evidence emerged against him linking him to the thefts.

The two are facing charges of robbery, theft and conspiracy to commit a felony.
