President Nicos Anastasiades on Friday night expressed the hope that prospects for the peaceful resolution of global disputes, including that of the Cyprus issue, could come about from the ashes of the war in Ukraine.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Takis Pattichis Museum of Industrial Pharmacy in Limassol, Anastasiades expressed hope that the situation in Ukraine would not last indefinitely, and noted that at the moment, the world’s attention is focused on this destructive war.

Anastasiades added that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar’s decision to abandon the idea of a bizonal bicommunal federation for Cyprus and his insistence on a two-state solution was unacceptable to the European Union, international organisations, various states and humanity in general.

Anastasiades stressed that a two-state solution would open a Pandora’s box for many other secessionist tendencies, as seen in various countries.
