A 52-year-old Sotira resident died in a car crash early on Saturday when his moped was hit by a car on a main road, police said.

“At eight o’clock in the morning in Sotira, Andreas Hadjiphilippou, a moped driver, entered from a passage along the main road of the industrial area of Sotira, and under conditions that are being investigated, was hit by a saloon car,” police spokesperson Steve Theodoulou told CNA.

Theodoulou added that the car was being driven by a 46-year-old man from Liopetri who was heading towards the Sotira – Liopetri road.

The driver of the vehicle underwent a breathalyser test which came back negative.

Famagusta traffic police are investigating the circumstances under which the fatal traffic accident took place.
