Man imprisoned for three months for drunk driving

A 65-year-old man was jailed for three months on Tuesday for drink driving over three years ago.

Larnaca district court also issued five penalty points to the man whose driving license will also be suspended for 60 days after his release from prison.

The man was arrested for reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol on December 11, 2019 after a passing driver saw him driving on the wrong side of the road on Spyrou Kyprianou avenue in Larnaca.

The man then stopped to change his tyre but soon fell to the ground and hit his head. The passing driver notified firefighters of a nearby fire station who in turn contacted the police.

When officers arrived at the scene, they realised the man was drunk, and an ambulance was called which transported him to Larnaca general hospital for treatment.

Doctors at the hospital who tested the man confirmed there was 259μg alcohol in his blood, when the legal limit is 50μg.
