Nurses announce new strike for February 12

Members of the state nurses union PASYNO announced a 12-hour strike for February 12, accusing the health ministry of ignoring their demands

The union said it has informed Health Minister Philippos Patsalis of its decision and urged him to look into the demands.

PASYNO said it was forced to go on strike because there was no serious sign that the state was prepared to support a group considered important for the functioning of the public health system and the imminent implementation of the NHS.

The nurses want state health facilities to have the necessary staff, and to receive shift allowances when working outside normal hours.

The also want the government to lift a ban on recruitment for permanent positions, and a ban on promotions.

PASYNO demands certain pay scales to be upgraded and nurses on term contracts who have served for 30 months to be given indefinite contracts.
