A man who was driving with his 4-month-old baby as a passenger was arrested after he tested positive during a narcotest and cannabis was found in his possession early on Tuesday in Paralimni, police said.
The suspect, a 21-year-old resident of a village in the Famagusta region, was stopped for a routine check at 1.10am. Officers detected a strong smell of cannabis and searched the vehicle.
During the search police said they found a half-smoked cigarette containing cannabis and a bag containing 25 grammes of the drug.
A four-month old baby, the man’s child, was strapped in a child seat.
Police officers took the baby home, left it with its mother and searched the residence, without finding any incriminating evidence.
The driver was taken to the offices of the drug squad in Famagusta where he was tested for drugs and detained. He was later remanded for four days.
