Man shot in Nicosia, police say (updated)

A 40-year-old man was slightly injured on Monday morning in Nicosia after unknown individuals fired shots against him in what appeared to be a gangland shooting.

Vasos Andreou, also known as Billy, was driving to Nicosia on the Kalo Horio Klirou road at around 7.45am when unknown individuals shot at him.

The man was rushed to Nicosia general hospital. His condition was not life-threatening.

Reports said Billy had stopped at a junction at a relatively remote area when the shooting took place. He managed to accelerate and turn into a business around 500 metres down the road.

An ambulance rushed him to hospital while police cordoned off the scene.
