Coronavirus: One death, 995 new cases (updated)

One death and 995 new coronavirus cases were announced on Tuesday, by the health ministry.

A 76-year-old man is the latest death from Covid-19.

So far 391 deaths were recorded: 260 men and 131 women.

The new cases were among 67,331 PCR and rapid tests, with a positivity rate of 1.48 per cent.

They concern 104 from contact tracing, 240 people who got PCR tests privately and 56 who got rapid tests in private labs and pharmacies, while 26 were samples processed in state hospital labs, and one person referred for testing by their physician.

Twelve cases were detected during testing of passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Another 556 were among tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Of these, one case was detected in a nursing home in Larnaca. In the Nicosia district, 173 cases were detected (a 0.83 per cent positivity rate), 153 in Limassol (1.09 per cent), 109 in Larnaca (1.28 per cent), 69 in Paphos (0.87 per cent), and 51 in the Famagusta district (0.85 per cent).

The number of cases recorded so far is at 93,247.

There are currently 231 patients with Covid-19 in hospital, 59 of whom are in serious condition, 23 intubated. According to the health ministry, 90 per cent of hospitalised patients are not vaccinated.
