Live music in the sleepy capital

It’s quiet in the city during this time of the year with most seeking to cool off by the beach or in the mountains. Nicosia is especially tranquil in August and those who remain in the capital city are treated to traffic-free roads and uncrowded places. Here to add a touch of fun and entertainment to those warm evenings in the city is Summer Nights 2021 brought to you by the Nicosia Municipality, which has been organising open-air events all summer long.

Coming up next, on Thursday August 19 is live Greek music and an outdoor photography exhibition. Held at the open-air amphitheatre of Eleftheria Square, the local musical ensemble Oneirodromoi will perform a set featuring folk, pop and rembetiko Greek music this week. Titled A Melodious Night their free gig will include beloved Greek songs and will begin at 8.30pm. In addition to the live music, the Cyprus Photographic Society – Nicosia Branch will host an outdoor exhibition celebrating World Photography Day on August 19.

Adding to the month’s events is another music performance on Monday 23, this one with a retro flair. Avant Tout will fill Nicosia Municipal Park with retro melodies in Greek and French in an evening called Retro Breeze. Plenty more events will follow in September, starting with three theatre performances and a world music night.
