Five businesses in Limassol and Paphos were charged €500 each for violating coronavirus protocols, police said on Friday.

The businesses concern a pub and a mini kiosk in Limassol and a fruit market, a hotel and a butchery in Paphos, a police spokesman told the Cyprus Mail.

The violations included failure to check clients and staff for a SafePass or display the necessary coronavirus signage, while in some cases employees were also found without a face mask, the spokesman added.

The fines came after 3,552 nationwide police checks for violations of coronavirus measures in the last 24 hours.

During the checks, officers also fined 29 individuals.

Most checks, 1,098, were conducted in Nicosia, where officers booked eight people, followed by Famagusta, where five people were booked after 658 checks.

In Larnaca, officers booked three people after 591 checks, while Paphos officers booked two people.

The least checks were carried out in Limassol, where 11 people were booked.

No violations were reported by Morphou officers, traffic and marine police.
