Interior Minister Nicos Nouris is travelling to Lithuania to participate in the annual European Conference on the management of external borders.

The Conference, which will take place in Vilnius on January 20 and 21, will deal exclusively with the issue of security at European borders, in the light of the increasing migration flows.

It will also look into recent developments and challenges regarding the instrumentalisation of irregular migration for political reasons by third countries.

The conference is expected to discuss, inter alia, ways to address the migration challenges faced by member states at land and maritime borders, as well as to explore ways to improve the return of third country nationals to their countries of origin.

During his stay in Vilnius, the interior minister will hold bilateral contacts with his Lithuanian, Austrian and Danish counterparts, as well as with other European officials.

Nouris will return to Cyprus on Saturday morning.
