Trapped couple rescued from sea

Ayia Napa police and the fire services on Thursday afternoon rescued two tourists who were trapped on a rock in the sea.

After being alerted by the rescue coordination centre, marine police and firefighters went to the scene near the ‘Lovers’ bridge’ where they found the 22-year-old man and 21-year-old woman on a rock two metres above the sea.

The couple said the sea had been calm when they first reached the rock but they became trapped when the sea turned rough.

Firefighters managed to pull them to safety using ropes.

The couple was examined by medical staff of an ambulance which arrived at the scene but they were not injured by their ordeal.
