New Enavsma Foundation to hold Access City Festival 2023

Enavsma Foundation Access City Festival

Over the May 6-7 weekend, Paphos will be transformed into an open workshop of experiential actions.

With the Access City Festival, an open workshop on the beach of Kato Paphos, this year’s events of the newly-established Enavsma Foundation kicks off next Saturday, May 6.

The Enavsma Foundation represents the evolution of the Thanos Hotels & Resorts and Round Table 7 Pafos scholarship fund. It organises actions and events that enrich the island’s cultural and artistic scene, while raising funds for the Foundation, increasing the number of scholarships and giving more Cypriot youth the chance to study, spread their wings and become leaders and pioneers of tomorrow.

Enavsma Foundation’s inaugural action for 2023 is the Access City Festival, in collaboration with the Cyprus Youth Organisation, the Paphos Municipal Youth Council, the Cyprus Sports Organisation and Round Table 7 Paphos. Grand Sponsor of the Festival is the Hellenic Bank.

As part of the event, on Saturday, May 6, from 4-7pm, Kato Paphos’ coast, by Alykes beach, will transform into an open workshop, whose programme promises a pleasant afternoon for young and old alike.

Among the offerings will be the Human Library, with the books being human beings, who, because of some aspect of their identity, are treated with ignorance, suspicion, prejudice or racism. With this Library, “book” and reader will thus enter into a personal dialogue, leading to very interesting results. Come meet the 13 human books, who will tell their personal stories, at the Mediteranneo of the Annabelle Hotel.

At the same time, kids will be challenged to solve the mystery of the lost loukouma (traditional fried dessert), listening to “Who ate the last loukouma?” by award-winning author Sante Antoniou, and enjoy art activities led by award-winning artist Elena Tsigaridou.

Also participating will be the start-up, innovative platform, Ablebook, an online platform providing services and information around accessibility to people with disabilities and vulnerable groups. Come and experience the platform and learn how it can improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and, by extension, vulnerable groups.

Finally, Ladies Circle 5 Paphos will offer experiential activities for young and old, to demonstrate first-hand the barriers created for People with Disabilities (PWD). Among the activities are a wheelchair route, an obstacle course to navigate with closed eyes, and more.

Thereafter, on Sunday, May 7, from 10.30am to 2pm, the Town Hall Square will transform into a high-energy workshop, offering street sports, music and dance for all ages.

With the support of Aspire Cycling (a subsidiary of Mokapot Productions), the traditional annual bike ride is organized at 10.30am. The ride is open to the public, whether young or old, free of charge. Hand cyclists are invited to participate so that participants can experience first-hand the cycling experience of PWD people.

At the same time, from 11am to 2pm, the Town Hall Square will feature archery and wheelchair basketball. With the support of the Paphos Archery Club and the 3A Archery Club, the public will meet Christos Misos, a blind archer with European successes, and other disabled archers, and compete against them.

Also, with the support of the Cyprus 3X3 basketball team of Atlanta and the APOP wheelchair basketball team, attendees will test their skills in basketball and wheelchair basketball competitions.

The NGO YPARCHO will offer experiential activities such as para-tennis and blind people’s racing, in a bid to understand the difficulties, and variety of sports that exist, for people with disabilities.

Also participating are the Paphos Rollin’Hood team, who will treat attendees to a demonstration of basketball with roller skates. Additionally, the Studio 6 School of Dance and School of Fine Arts will perform.

Come join in for an experience of a lifetime! #makepafosaccessible #enavsmafoundation
